Why You Need AccountingDisclosure.com...

One side effect of Sarbanes-Oxley is that lawyers increasing are being asked to provide guidance in the area of accounting and auditing. As John Huber succinctly put it at a recent ABA conference, “we as lawyers are going to have to practice more accounting that we ever thought possible.”

So in response to numerous requests from TheCorporateCounsel.net subscribers, we just launched AccountingDisclosure.com - a website devoted to accounting and auditing issues. It is a “one-stop” website that provides a host of resources to help you grapple with an increasingly complicated area that derives its guidance from dozens of sources.

What is on AccountingDisclosure.com:

  1. Our Resource Library – This library covers over 30 “hot” or “need to know” topics. Each page devoted to a topic begins with “In a Nutshell,” a brief explanation of what the topic is all about. Then, there are links to the relevant rules and standards. Finally, there are links to sample documents or articles on each topic. There is no comparable resource like this on the Web.
  2. Loads of Expert Advice – Through our regular webcast programs and “Inside Track with Broc” interviews, we reach out to the experts - and have them share their insights on timely topics.
  3. Interactive Q&A Forum – Our Q&A Forum is moderated by a former CFO, JoAnne Hindman.
  4. Practical Email Newsletter – Our bimonthly newsletter covers the latest developments as well as provides practical guidance.
  5. Sample Disclosures – In the wake of a landslide of new disclosure requirements, it is more important than ever to keep abreast of the new disclosure trends – of what others are actually doing! We take the time to scour the latest disclosure - then, post numerous excerpts and note the latest trends.
  6. The Basics – For those of us less attuned to accounting and auditing, we have posted FAQs that explain how accounting and auditing standards are set – and how to understand financial statements.
  7. SEC Staff’s Accounting Training Manual - We provide the only HTML-version of the SEC staff’s popular “Accounting Training Manual.” The Training Manual is used by the SEC staff to train its own accountants – and is not available on the SEC’s website.
  8. Links to the Numerous Accounting and Auditing Standards – On the site, we maintain links to the numerous sources of accounting and auditing standards.
